Nahki scores in Bradford draw
Bradford City striker Nahki Wells was on target in the Bantams' 2-2 away draw with Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium today.The 22-year old Bermuda international scored a spectacular goal directly from a free kick to take his season tally to 18 in all competitions.It was City's first game since their League Cup semi-final second- leg clash with Premier side Aston Villa at Villa Park on January 22.The Bantams won the two legged semi -final 4-3 on aggregate to become the first fourth tier side to reach a major English domestic cup final in 51 years.City will face Premier side Swansea in the League Cup final at Wembley Stadium on February 24.En route to the final Wells and his team mates also claimed the Premier scalps of Wigan Athletic and Arsenal via penalty shoot-outs.City have won nine straight penalty shoot-outs which is an English record.Playing in frigid conditions before a crowd of 3,577 fans, Fleetwood took the lead in the 23rd minute when Alan Goodall headed home a Gareth Evans corner at the near post.But hotshot Wells brought the two teams level just before the half when he smashed a 20-yard free kick inside the top left corner of Scott Davies' goal from a direct free kick after team mate Gary Jones was fouled.City then took the lead for the first time in the match in the 52nd minute after Ryan Dickson leapt from the bench to net his first goal in a Bantams jersey. The defender slotted past Davies after being put through into space by Carl McHugh's pass.However, the visitors would be denied victory as their hosts were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute that Joe Parkin converted to earn his team a share of the spoils.Fleetwood were awarded a penalty after Wells' strike partner James Hanson handled in the box.Wells, who is City's leading goalscorer, was replaced by Andy Gray in the 85th minute.City are currently tenth in the Npower League Two standings, three points adrift of Fleetwood with a game in hand on their nearest rivals.
