Posh bid for Wells was club record

Nahki Wells (right) was a transfer target for Peterborough.

Peterborough United were prepared to break the club’s transfer record to land Bradford City striker Nahki Wells. The Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony revealed on his Twitter account that he bid more than the £1.1 million paid to Crawley Town for Tyrone Barnett 18 months ago in an attempt to sign the 23-year-old.But Bradford knocked back the big-money offer for Wells who scored 26 goals last season to help his side gain promotion and reach the Capital One Cup final.MacAnthony tweeted: “We made a club record bid but in fairness to Bradford they don’t need the money, so good for them.”Bradford have made it clear that they do not want to sell Wells and would only listen to offers that manager Phil Parkinson deemed good enough to bring in a replacement. It would also seem unlikely that the Bermudian, who has another two years on his contract, would be interested by another League One club.He told The Royal Gazette in a recent interview that he was more than happy to stay at Valley Parade, but admitted if the right opportunity came along then he would have to consider it.“I’m contracted to Bradford, I’m happy at Bradford and the club have done a lot for me, but I would never rule out the option of playing at a higher level,” he said.“It’s the same for any player . . . it’s a no-brainer that if you have the opportunity to kick on in your career then you have to take it.”
