BBFS members get chance to study overseas

Bermuda Brazilian Football School (BBFS) players and coaches are to fly overseas to continue their academics this term as part of the programme’s goal.Eight youth members and five youth trainees will attending various institutions to further their schooling after a successful summer.Three will be off to university, two to junior college and the remainder will be completing their high school education.“The BBFS is pleased to announce that the following members/trainee youth coaches will either return or travel overseas in Spain, UK, USA and Canada for the first time, to follow their academic goals,” said CEO Cal Blankendal.Those selected are D’Andre Wainwright, Jaylen Bean, Kane Crichlow, Jenay Pereira-Edness, D’Nye-Jha Sharrieff-Hayward, Cally Blankendal, San-Tze Burgess, Rahzir Smith-Jones, Chae Brangman, Kiuno Cann, Naquan Smith, Rahzir Smith-Jones and Jasmine Spence.Burgess and Smith-Jones will be returning to their boarding school in the UK.“As BBFS continues to expand our services to Bermuda’s youth, we remain committed to motivating our student athletes in furthering their education,” added Blankendal.“The mission statement of BBFS is to foster the mental, physical and emotional growth in youth through football, both nationally and internationally.”Blankendal also congratulated the players’ parents and parent clubs for aiding in their development.“A special thank-you has to go out to Devonshire Colts Football Club, Western Stars Sports Club (Dandy Stars), North Village Community Club, Somerset Cricket Club, Devonshire Recreation Club, BAA and Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club.”The school will also look to set up a bursary programme for their future youth members’ future by 2015, to aid in offsetting the cost of their tuition.The Under-12 BBFS teams competed in three European tournaments in the past month, finishing third at Vildbjerg Cup in Denmark — Europe’s fourth largest youth tournament.The same squad then made a deep run in the Dana Cup Tournament in Denmark, exiting at the quarter-final stage with a 5-3 loss to LA Academia FC of Guatemala.They also competed in the Brondby Cup competition, also in Denmark.
