Striker Jonte sent out on loan
Bermuda striker Jonte Smith has been sent out on loan again by Crawley Town as he continues his recovery from a recent ankle injury.Manager Richie Barker confirmed on the club’s official website yesterday that Smith is heading out on a month’s loan to Conference South club Hampshire club Havant and Waterlooville.Smith is now fully fit after recovering from an ankle injury sustained in pre-season but the club has determined that the Bermuda international needs match fitness and worked out a deal for Conference club to take him for a month.“Jonte got quite a bad ankle injury in pre-season but he has recovered slightly ahead of schedule,” said manager Richie Barker.“He needs games now for match fitness and Havant are a good club who play at a decent standard and this will help both his short and long-term development.”The Hawks, currently 17th in Conference South, are managed by former Portmouth striker Lee Bradbury. The paperwork is expected to be completed in time for Smith to be available to make his debut tonight at home to Farnborough, though he will not be eligible to play for Havant and Waterlooville in the FA Cup.Jonte, who turned 19 in July, has had previous loan spells since signing a professional contract at Crawley. He enjoyed a prolific loan spell with Met Police in the first three months of the 2012-13 season, scoring 24 goals. It earned him promotion to the first-team squad and he made his debut as a substitute in the 3-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth on December 29 2012, one of four appearances on the bench during the campaign.Smith finished the season on loan at Conference South club Eastbourne Borough before signing a new one-year contract at the end of the 2012-13 season. The ankle injury has kept him sidelined this season as Crawley enjoy a good start to the League One season where they sit seventh in the standings.
