Women’s U17s head to Haiti for qualifiers
Bermuda Under-17 women’s national team flew out to Haiti this morning on a mission to qualify for the 2014 Under-17 World Cup.The youngsters will battle with seven other teams for the two places in next year’s final, when the final round of the Caribbean Football Union Under-17 qualifying tournament begins today and runs until September 30 at the Sylvio Cator Stadium in Port au Prince.Bermuda are in Group B along with Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada. Group A comprises of hosts Haiti, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands and Antigua.Bermuda begin their quest tomorrow when they take on Dominican Republic, before playing Trinidad and Tobago on Monday and Grenada next Wednesday.The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals to be played next Friday. The final and third-place game will be played on September 29. The two finalists from the Haiti tournament will participate in the CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament tentatively scheduled to be played in Jamaica from October 30-November 9, 2013.The USA, Canada, Mexico, hosts Jamaica, Central American qualifiers El Salvador and Guatemala will await the two CFU advancing teams. This is the final qualifying stage with the top two teams going to the World Cup in 2014 in Costa Rica.Aaron Denkins is the head coach of the Bermuda team and will be assisted by Naquita Robinson.
