A share of the points was a fair result at Bernard Park after both teams wasted excellent changes to win the match in stoppage time.

First, Somerset substitute Al-Rashid Ebbin was put through by Vashun Blanchette but mis-hit his shot when with just the ‘keeper Troy Hall Jr to beat. Moments later, Keishen Bean had an equally bad miss after he scooped his effort over the top.

The second half certainly offered more excitement than the first, with few clear cut chances for either teams as Somerset took the lead on the half-hour when Adrian Burrows converted from the penalty spot after Shannon DeShields was booked for the foul

Village erased Somerset’s lead four minutes into the second half when, from a corner on the left, Tyrell Burgess headed the ball back into the six-yard box and Thomas Watson turned it over the line.

Within two minutes Village suffered another setback when DeShields was sent off for a second yellow card after committing a foul on Sean Bramgna. Despite the numerical disadvantage Village were starting to play some of their best football of the match, even putting the ball in the net a second time moments after DeShields’ dismissal, but Watson’s effort was ruled out for offside. Then Devrae Tankard, the Village fullback was booked for diving inside the Somerset box.

Village were enjoying a good period of pressure before their goalkeeper made an important save at the other end to deny Blanchette’s low shot from finding the far corner.
