McGrath: Interesting draw in Bistro Cup

The Corona League Bistro Challenge Cup’s preliminary round will feature four former finalists vying to reach the first round proper.

The draw, held on Tuesday night at Bistro at the Beach, pits North Village against Vasco, and West End United against Lock N Key in a double-header at Goose Gosling Field on Friday, December 6.

Corona League president Mick McGrath said: “With all four teams in the preliminary round already Bistro Challenge Cup finalists, it will make for some very interesting games.

“North Village have a very impressive squad this season but Vasco are only just behind them in the table, so both teams are very capable of getting a win.

“West End United are a little ahead of Lock N Key on points, but you can never underestimate the magic of the cup to bring out performances from the players, so we should be treated to two highly entertaining games.

“I think we will see plenty of goals flying in.”

Village’s game against Vasco will start at 6.30pm, with West End United’s and Lock N Key’s match kicking off at 8.30pm.

The winner of the Village/Vasco match will face Flanagan’s Onions in the first round, while Lobster Pot await the winner of United/Lock N Key.

Those matches are set for February 7.

Defending champions Tuff Dogs will take on BAA, while Valley FC clash with league champions Robin Hood, in the other first round matches on February 8.
