X-Roads blow late chance
X-Roads 1 St George’s 1
X-Roads battled back to earn a draw against St George’s though substitute Tristan Daniels missed a good chance to win it with just five minutes remaining at Garrison Field.
Wesley Stovell gave St George’s the lead in the 35th minute before substitute Cameron Perinchief pulled X-Roads level on the hour.
St George’s then had Jarizinho Bassett sent off for a second booking, before X-Roads threatened to snatch a late winner and advance to the last eight. Instead the two First Division teams will be involved in a replay to decide which team progresses to the quarter-finals.
St George’s had the brighter start, with the best chance in the early stages falling to Bassett on 14 minutes when he broke free of the defence but drove his low shot just wide of the far post. The visitors blew an even better chance to open the scoring in the 32nd minute when David Signor blasted over from the penalty spot after Tariq Smith in the X-Roads goal tripped Stovell.
X-Roads were offering few threats to goalkeeper Charles Marshall Jr and ten minutes before the break they took a deserved lead with a well taken goal by Stovell who raced through and slid his effort into the bottom corner.
St George’s suffered a setback when Bassett was sent off for a second booking in the 72nd minute. X-Roads blew a perfect opportunity to capitalise on the advantage, though, when Daniels ran the ball around the advancing Marshall and over the line for a goal kick when it looked like he would become the X-Roads hero.
