Stars shock Somerset in comeback win
Footy Force Stars pulled off the season’s biggest upset during the women’s futsal league action at Warwick Academy last weekend.
Stars came from behind to beat Somerset 4-2. Cheyra Bell, the league’s leading goalscorer with twelve goals, K’Shaela Burch-Waldron, Zahra Gibbons and Leah Smith were all on target for Stars. Shauntae Todd netted a brace for Somerset, who suffered their second loss of the campaign.
The win enabled Stars to leapfrog Somerset on goal difference and move into second place in the league standings, six-points adrift of leaders PHC.
Somerset slipped to third, level on points with Footy Force Stars and fourth-placed Dandy Stars.
PHC, the defending champions, stretched their unbeaten streak to five games after cruising to an emphatic 9-1 win over Hamilton Parish.
Teiyah Durham, Jessica Furtado and Symira Lowe-Darrell all netted braces for PHC with Kalay Hollis, Micah Pond and Zahkia Durham also chipping in with goals. Asrael Basden scored for Parish. The remaining contest saw Dandy Stars thrash bottom side Young Men’s Social Club 7-1.
Cleshaunay Darrell-Virgil and Kashintae Fox both netted twice for Dandy Stars while Kyla Ramatar, Nia Christopher and Dazarre Place were also on target. Zekiah Lewis replied for winless Young Men’s Social club who slumped to their fifth straight defeat.
