Several overseas-based players have been named in the Bermuda Under-15 training squad for next year’s Concacaf Championship and the 2016 Caribbean Football Union/Concacaf Under-17 World Cup qualifiers.

Dennis Brown, the Somerset Trojans technical director, has been named as the coach and will be assisted by Richard Todd, the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) academy director, and his team of coaches.

Rahzir-Smith Jones, of Queens Park Rangers, Daquan Crockwell, of Mansfield Town, and Birmingham City’s Kesiah Foggo have been included in the 40-man squad.

Players not listed in the preliminary squad will be invited to join training at a later date, with the BFA coaches assessing matches during the BFA youth and schools’ leagues.

“The Concacaf Under-15 Championship in 2015 will serve as an important developmental tournament towards helping the players and coaches gain exposure to, and knowledge of potential opponents from the Concacaf region,” Todd said.

“We will begin a steady build up toward next summer’s event with the overseas-based players joining in training camps upon their return.

“Dennis Brown will have adequate time over the next 17 months to best prepare the team for the 2016 World Cup Under-17 qualifiers.”

Mark Wade, the BFA player development chairman, said: “As we put the final touches to the strategic plan, we have reviewed our programming over the past eight years and charted a course for better performances.

“We are pleased with our record at this level and look forward to the new crop of players under the guidance of Dennis Brown and the Richard Todd to continue and improve Bermuda’s standing in this age group.”

Last year Bermuda entered the inaugural Concacaf Under-15 Championship in the Cayman Islands, advancing to the semi-finals as group winners before losing on penalties to Guatemala, settling for fourth place after a 2-0 defeat to El Salvador in the third/fourth place play-off match.

Bermuda was awarded the Fair Play award and had several players recognised for their outstanding performances during the tournament.

The team, led by head coach Andrew Bascome, was invited to participate in the Under-16 Copa De Mexico Tournament in August in Mexico City as a result of their performances at the Championship.
