Goals for Wells and Lambe
Nahki Wells notched his eleventh goal of the season in Huddersfield Town’s 3-1 victory against Watford at the John Smith’s Stadium today.
Wells, who was this week linked with a transfer-window move to Barclays Premier League side Burnley, opened the scoring in the 52nd minute with a neat finish into the bottom left-hand corner.
Watford levelled in the 65th minute when Odion Ighalo found the net from a tight angle, before Huddersfield restored their advantage through James Vaughan, who has also been rumoured to be leaving Huddersfield, scoring in the 76th minute.
Joel Lynch’s overhead kick late on sealed for the win for Chris Powell’s side, who have moved up to fifteenth in the table.
“We’ve had a good week and the players were absolutely outstanding today,” Powell said. “We played on the front foot, were aggressive, mixed it up and played our football today. We set up very well.
“We had belief that our players are at the same level as Watford. We spoke about them and I was really pleased with our training.”
Meanwhile, Reggie Lambe, the Bermuda winger, scored his first goal in English football, for Mansfield Town in their League Two match away to Burton Albion.
The 23-year-old, who signed an extended contract with Mansfield yesterday, struck from close range in the 51st minute with his team already trailing by two goals.
Mansfield, who are 20th in the table, conceded twice before the half-hour mark, with Matt Palmer and Kelvin Maynard scoring for Burton.
