Nahki Wells hailed Huddersfield Town’s “complete performance” in their 2-0 win at Birmingham City on Saturday. The Bermuda striker scored one goal and had a hand in the other as Huddersfield climbed out of the bottom three of the Sky Bet Championship.Wells had the easiest of tap-ins in the 83rd minute after some fine work by Sean Scanell down the right left the Birmingham defence chasing shadows.Scannell’s cross was untouched as it made its way across the box, and Wells just had to get a touch to it at the back post.Huddersfield took the lead after just 31 seconds, and again Scannell was involved. The midfielder crossed the ball, Wells let it run past him, and Joe Lolley hammered the ball home for his first goal since April.Huddersfield had not won in six league games, but are now up to nineteenth in the Championship, while Birmingham, who started the day in sixth, dropped to seventh and have won just one of their last six league games at home.“Exactly what we deserve! We were able to put in a complete performance against a tough side,” Wells wrote on Twitter afterwards. His sentiments were echoed by David Wagner, who celebrated his first win in charge and said it had been a “perfect day”.The Huddersfield coach pointed to the hard work the team had done in training, and during the game at St Andrew’s, as something he found especially pleasing.“I am proud of the squad,” he said. “It was another good performance and another step to where we want to be.“I could see the passion I want the squad to bring to the pitch. Everyone knows if you work hard, which my players did, you will get results.”While Wells was helping his side move in the right direction, Rai Simons sat on the bench as Chesterfield drew 1-1 with Walsall in the FA Cup.Lee Novak scored in the final minute to earn Chesterfield a second round replay, after Jason Demetriou had given the visiting side the lead in the nineteenth minute. The two teams, both without managers, will meet again at the Bescot Stadium later this month in the replay.
