Ian Coke notched his second hat-trick of the season to condemn ten-man Somerset Trojans to one of their heaviest FA Cup defeats at Police Field yesterday.

Coke converted in the twelfth, 60th and 80th minutes to extend his season’s tally to eight goals since returning from injury.

TiaeVince Douglas, Dunn-Ya Taylor and Ernst Trott, with a penalty, were also on target for Boulevard who ruthlessly exploited a porous Trojans defence.

The visiting side replied through Jonathan Bean and Leo Burgess who started as a winger before being switched to right back to try and stop the bleeding.

Jomari Gooden, the Somerset defender, was shown a red card for denying Coke a scoring opportunity after fouling him from behind as he raced towards goal with only Tariq Brown, the Somerset goalkeeper, to beat.

Keemo Smith, the Boulevard coach, hailed his team’s emphatic victory which far exceeded his expectations.

“This is our fourth time playing Somerset this season, I thought we may get lucky, but didn’t expect six goals.

“Our finishing was definitely on point and hopefully we can take it through to next week in the league where it really counts.”

Smith also hailed Coke’s superb treble.

“Ian is our go-to guy,” he said. “That’s the man we depend on to get goals so he’s very important to the team.”

Boulevard started the brighter of the two sides and it came as no surprise when Coke broke the deadlock with a neat finish.

Striker Mark Smith and midfielder Trott also went close for the home team who had a confident appeal for a penalty ignored.

Coke was brought down in the box and even though the referee’s assistant waved his flag, referee Eli Holmes ruled otherwise.

Trojans eventually found their rhythm and came close on a few occasions to equalising.

Winger Tahj Wade had a swerving volley turned around the post by Deaz Chambers, the Boulevard goalkeeper, who also had to race off his line to deal with Daunte Woods’s dangerous cross from the right under pressure from Bean.

Kieshen Smith, the Trojans coach, read his players the riot act during the break.

However, it was Boulevard who responded first as Douglas side-footed Taylor’s pull back from close range to double the home side’s lead.

Boulevard pulled further ahead when Coke grabbed his second and his team’s third after tapping in Taylor’s pass.

Coke then went from scorer to provider when he laid on a pass in the box for Taylor to slot home to make it 4-0.

Trojans finally opened their account when Bean converted from Ayshaun Smith’s cross.

The visiting side were reduced to ten men in the 77th minute after Woods was sent off for fouling Coke in the box.

Trott buried the ensuing penalty to restore Boulevard’s four-goal cushion.

Burgess pulled another goal back for Trojans two minutes before Coke completed his hat-trick with a thunderous strike from 20 yards.

Mikre Pace, the Boulevard assistant coach, was dismissed for foul and abusive language towards the match officials.
