Trott gets England Under-19 call

Nathan Trott

Bermudian Nathan Trott has earned another call to England Under-19 duty.

The former BAA and North Village goalkeeper has been named in the England training squad for the European Under-19 Championship along with West Ham team-mate Reece Oxford, who has already made four appearances for the England at under-19 level.

“Congrats to @Nathan_trott and on receiving his first England U19 call-up for Elite Round Qualifiers with Norway, Spain and Belarus!” West Ham commented on the social-media network Twitter today.

“Congrats also to @Reeceoxford_ who has already been capped 4 times by England at U19 level and is named again.”

England are in group three and will play their matches on March 22, 24 and 27 — all at home venues to be determined. The seven group winners will join hosts Georgia at the finals from July 2 to 15.

Trott earned a first call-up to the England Under-19 squad for two international friendlies against Croatia and Bulgaria last October, but was ruled out after injuring his thumb while training with his club.

The 18-year-old is one of England’s most highly rated youngsters and has earned plenty of plaudits this season for West Ham’s Premier League 2 side for players aged under 23.

He made a string of saves during ten-man West Ham’s goalless draw away to Newcastle United on Monday.

Trott has trained with the first team at the club’s Rush Green base on a number of occasions and in January agreed to the terms of a new deal keeping him at the East London club at least until 2020.

He was also among eight goalkeepers chosen to attend an England goalkeeping camp with specialist coaches Martin Thomas and Simon Smith in January.

Trott first caught the eye of the West Ham coaching staff during trials in the summer of 2015, which led to him putting pen to a deal keeping him at the club until June 2018.

He made his debut for West Ham in April against Reading in the Under-18 Premier League group one play-off and a month later impressed between the posts at the annual ICGT Tournament in Amsterdam and Hong Kong Sevens tournament to quickly establish himself among the pecking order.
