Bermuda to travel to Grenada for friendlies
Bermuda’s football team will travel to Grenada to play two international friendlies against the Caribbean nation in June.
The dates of the matches have yet to be confirmed but they will take place at Grenada’s National Stadium during the Fifa international dates between June 5 and 13.
Grenada have already announced a training squad of 30 players as they have two games prior to the matches against Bermuda.
They have started preparations for a home international friendly on April 29 as well as the WIFA men’s Tournament from May 22 to 29.
Bermuda are ranked 25 places below Grenada in the world rankings at 183.
Bermuda’s last outing came in a friendly at the National Stadium against Canada, which the visiting side won 4-2 to extend their unbeaten streak over the home side dating back to the late 1960s.
Several of Bermuda’s Under-20 players featured in the match, including goalkeeper Jahquil Hill, of the Chesterfield International Academy, Bristol City forward Osagi Bascome, Zenawi Bowen, Rai Sampson, Oneko Lowe, Ajai Daniels and Keishon Bean.
Sampson and Lowe also featured in a Bermuda Select’s 1-1 draw with North American Soccer League champions New York Cosmos at the National Stadium this month.
Forward Lowe, who led Bermuda’s scorers with two goals at the Concacaf Under-20 Championships in Costa Rica last month, has since joined the Cosmos on a one-year deal.
The Dandy Town winger will play for the Cosmos B team this season as part of an agreement by the club to sign a promising Bermudian player during their preseason visit to the island.
Lowe has been granted a round-trip ticket and monthly housing allowance by the Cosmos.
He will join up with his new team-mates next month ahead of their season opener away to Boston City in the Northeast Region’s North Atlantic Conference.
n Town and Flanagan’s Onions will meet in the Premier Division tonight at Goose Gosling Field at 9pm.
There is plenty at stake for both teams as defending champions Town are seeking to clinch qualification for next season’s Dudley Eve Trophy while Onions are trying to pull further away from the relegation zone.
Town are two points adrift of the sixth and final Dudley Eve Trophy spot while Onions are a point above relegation.
