Reggie Lambe scored twice, but could not help Carlisle United to victory after Wycombe Wanderers struck deep into stoppage time to earn a 3-3 draw in Sky Bet League Two yesterday.

Lambe opened the scoring at Brunton Park in the fourth minute with his fifth goal of the season and, after Wycombe levelled things up at 2-2 in the 72nd minute, the Bermudian scored what looked to be the winner in the 84th minute when he drove a low shot into the far bottom corner.

However, Wycombe came back to dash Carlisle’s hopes of victory with a header from Paris Cowan-Hall four minutes into time added on.

Carlisle took the lead early on when Lambe headed home Nicky Adams’s cross on the right edge of the six-yard box.

Mid-table Carlisle looked well on their way to victory when Jamie Devitt converted a penalty in the 38th minute to double their lead.

However, goals by Sam Saunders, two minutes into first-half stoppage time, and Adelbayo Akinfenwa, in the 72nd minute, wiped out the Carlisle lead.

Lambe restored the lead 12 minutes later, but Wycombe showed tremendous character to equalise in the closing moments when Cowan-Hall found the net to earn the visiting side a point in a thrilling contest.

Carlisle have dropped to fifteenth in the table.

• Nahki Wells played his first full game of the season when he featured in a behind-closed-doors match for Burnley in a 2-2 draw at home to Sheffield United yesterday.

Wells, who is recovering from ankle surgery, was building on the hour he played for Burnley’s under-23 side in the Professional Development League away to Nottingham Forest last week.

Midfielder Dean Marney, who is returning after nine months out with a knee injury, played 45 minutes against United.

Both teams fielded strong teams, with United, who included former Burnley defender Danny Lafferty in their team, taking the lead through David Brooks.

The visiting side doubled their advantage when Richard Stearman, the former Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers defender, got his name on the scoresheet.

However, Burnley hit back in the second half, with Oliver Younger scoring from close range from a corner.

The equaliser came in the 88th minute when Wells found Fredrick Ulvestad to fire home. Wells had earlier volleyed wide from a half-chance.
