Lejuan Simmons scored five times as Premier Division champions Robin Hood ran riot against Boulevard Blazers yesterday.

Antwan Russell and Lozendro Symonds scored two each and Colin Ryan pitched in with one as Hood went goal crazy at Police Field yesterday.

The only bright spot for the home team, on an already dismal day, was a lone strike from midfielder Kamali Davis.

The win ensured that Hood remained three points behind PHC Zebras, the leaders, going into the second half of the season. Hood coach John Barry Nusum was pleased with his team’s approach.

“I was glad to see the team’s hunger to score goals and the finishing was very clinical,” he said. “There’s a few things we need to execute more instinctively, but with ten goals it’s hard to find faults.”

Eight of the game’s 11 goals came in the second half, but the result was decided before the interval as Hood scored three unanswered goals.

Russell opened the scoring in the eighteenth minute when he pounced on a Simmons cutback to slot home from 12 yards.

Colin Ryan doubled the lead six minutes later with a back-post header from a free kick to the right side of the penalty area, and just before the half, Simmons scored his first and the game’s third from the spot after being bundled over inside the box.

Hood picked up where they left off three minutes into the second half when Symonds scored a volley from just inside the box after Nathan Peskett’s header came back off an upright.

Davis responded a minute later with a neat finish after combining with TaiVince Douglas on the edge of the area.

Any hopes Boulevard had of getting back into the match were soon dashed by Simmons, who scored four consecutive goals in the space of 17 minutes.

He was first on hand to tap home a rebound off the goalkeeper, who was unable to hold on to Peskett’s initial attempt. Simmons then brought down a Peskett flick-on just inside the box, finishing hard and low to the goalkeeper’s right, and ten minutes later he was once again on the doorstep to tap in a low cross from Shakir Smith.

Simmons rounded off the ruthless display of finishing when he robbed a Boulevard defender on the edge of the box and slotted calmly under the goalkeeper.

The rout was completed by Russell, who scored his second from the penalty spot, and Symonds, who also completed his brace with a rebound from close range.
