Jahquil Hill has severed ties with the Oakville Blue Devils, The Royal Gazette can reveal.

The Ontario League 1 champions announced on June 1 that the Bermuda goalkeeper had been added to their squad for this season.

However, Duncan Wilde, the Blue Devils head coach, confirmed yesterday that Hill has left the club.

“Unfortunately, he had a change of heart and wants to continue pursuing a future in England,” Wilde said.

“I believe he is now back in Bermuda preparing for that opportunity. We wish him every success.”

The 21-year-old was scouted by the Canadian side during their pre-season tour to Bermuda in April.

He impressed the Blue Devils during their opening match of the Bermuda Triangle Cup against a Bermuda Select side at the National Stadium, as well as during a training session with the visiting side at BFA Field.

“Jahquil definitely caught our eye with his performance,” Wilde said at the time. “We invited him into training during our visit and he did very well.”

Hill has passed up the opportunity to play for the Blue Devils in favour of continuing his education.

“I have decided to attend college in the UK and will combine that with football opportunities as much as possible,” he said. “At this stage of my life education is the key.

“I have returned to Bermuda to work, which was not possible if I would have remained in Canada. I wish to thank the Oakville Blue Devils, Bermuda Sports Management Group and Bermuda Brazilian Football School for their support.”

Hill started last season at English non-League side Rushall Olympic before joining Oakville, who clinched their spot in the Canadian Championship after winning the League 1 Ontario final last October.

He has also had stints in the UK with United FC, Ilkeston and Stafford Rangers.
