Bermuda celebrate winning Division Two of the Concacaf Girls' Under-15 Championship

Adia Gibbons and Emily Cabral were Bermuda’s dynamic duo as Bermuda clinched the Concacaf Girls’ Under-15 Championship Division Two title with a 2-1 win over Grenada at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, today.

Cabral set up Gibbons’s opener with virtually the last kick of the first half, before Nyah Hood equalised from a Melania Fullerton corner in the 48th minute.

Cabral then finished off a beautiful give-and-go with Gibbons in the 57th minute to give Bermuda the title.

Gibbons almost helped give Bermuda the lead in the fifth minute, but Katelyn Medeiros, who scored Bermuda’s only goal of the semi-final win over St Lucia on Friday, shot over the crossbar.

Cabral then put Gibbons through on the left, and she shot underneath the Grenada goalkeeper to give Bermuda the lead in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time.

Hood, the Grenada forward, then got the faintest of touches from Fullerton’s corner at the near post to equalise, but Cabral fed Gibbons on the edge of the box nine minutes later and Gibbons played a beautiful pass straight into Cabral’s path for her to finish expertly into the bottom corner for the victory.

Crenstant Williams, the Bermuda Football Association second vice-president, was fulsome in his praise of Vance Brown, under-15 coach.

He tweeted: “He had a plan, a vision and the belief that they could achieve!!! He doesn’t like accolades or to be in the spotlight, but today I salute you Vance Brown as you and your team made history!!!

“Huge shout out to Nakita Robinson, who has been a mainstay of our women’s programme, as I know you were there in spirit! As [Brown] said, the harder work starts now!!
