Nahki Wells was substituted late on in Queens Park Rangers’ 0-0 draw away to Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday.

Wells, who signed on a season-long loan from Premier League Burnley last week, was replaced by Matt Smith in the 85th minute.

Tomer Hemed and Toni Leistner headed over for Rangers in the first half, while Birmingham’s Jota had a penalty appeal turned down. Rangers could have won it in the last minute, but Smith hit the post after a goalmouth scramble.

Steve McClaren, the QPR manager, said: “First and foremost, it was great to keep another clean sheet.

“After the West Brom game [a 7-1 defeat], it was something we had to address. We controlled the game and, on another day, could have won it with the opportunities we had.

“Credit to the players, they’ve worked so hard on the training pitch. It was as good an away performance as I’ve seen in a while from a team. Joe Lumley didn’t really have a save to make.”

QPR are 22nd in the table with four points from six games.

Reggie Lambe was also substituted late in the game in Cambridge United’s 1-0 win away to Stevenage in League Two on Saturday.

The Bermuda captain was replaced by Ade Azeez in the 81st minute. David Amoo scored his first goal of the season as Cambridge ended a run of back-to-back league defeats. Cambridge are seventeenth in the table with seven points from six games.

Meanwhile Jontè Smith, the Bermuda forward, helped English non-League Lewes side to a 1-0 win away to Margate in the Bostik League Premier Division on Saturday.

James Hammond scored the winner for the visiting side in the 24th minute. Lewes are eleventh in the table with eight points from five matches.

Fit-again Willie Clemons played his first match for a month in Bodens’ 2-0 home win against Kramfors-Alliansen in the Swedish fourth tier on Saturday.

The Bermuda midfielder came on as a second-half substitute, winning his side a penalty and setting up their second goal.

“Happy to be back would be an understatement,” Clemons tweeted on Saturday. “First full 90 mins in over a month. I feel good.”

Bodens are fourth in the standings with 34 points from 19 matches.

Danté Leverock, the Bermuda defender, played in Narva Trans 1-1 draw at home to Vaprus in the Estonian top flight on Saturday. Trans are fourth in the table with 45 points from 26 games. William White, Bermuda defender, was an unused substitute in Narpes Kraft 3-0 defeat at home to GBK in the Finnish second tier yesterday.
