Trott and West Ham survive scare
Nathan Trott was involved in an eight-goal thriller as West Ham United Under-23 beat Swansea City Under-23 5-3 in the Premier League 2 today.
The Bermudian goalkeeper, who earned his sixth England Under-20 cap against Czech Republic last week, conceded three second-half goals as West Ham survived a scare at the Chigwell Construction Stadium, Dagenham, East London.
An own goal from Swansea striker Botti Biabi put the home side ahead after nine minutes before a penalty by forward Joe Powell doubled Wesy Ham’s lead in the eleventh minute.
Powell’s strike partner Sean Adarkwa netted his first goal for West Ham in the 44th minute to give his side a three-goal cushion at the interval.
Powell then scored his second from the spot in the 65th minute before Swansea fought back with three goals in 16 minutes from Tyler Reid, Jordan Garrick and Adnan Maric.
It was a nervous finale for the home side as Swansea missed a glaring chance to drew level only for West Ham to put the game to bed in the 90th minute through midfielder Veron Parkes. The win lifts West Ham to ninth in the table on nine points, while Swansea are eleventh on three points.
Trott was a member of the England squad that won the 2017 European Under-19 Championship in Georgia. The former BAA player signed an initial 2½-year deal with West Ham in January 2016, which has since been extended until 2020.
West Ham Under-23 are next in action against Derby County at the Chigwell Construction Stadium on November 3.
n Nahki Wells will be hoping for a return to the starting line-up when Queens Park Rangers face Sheffield Wednesday at home today.
Wells came on as second-half substitute in QPR’s 2-0 victory away to Ipswich Town at the weekend.
