Rangers remain on course

Ezekiel Stoneham was on target for Rangers

Southampton Rangers continued their push for promotion with a comfortable 6-1 win over Wolves at Garrison Field, while Somerset Eagles, second, also remain unbeaten after a 2-1 win over Young Men’s Social Club at Police Field yesterday.

Rangers were given an early scare when Marcus Ming gave Wolves the lead after 15 minutes.

However, the unbeaten league leaders went from strength to strength after that, netting three goals in a ten-minute period late in the game to cushion their win.

Jarazinho Bassett equalised for Rangers in the 41st minute before Cardel Henry made it 2-1 for Rangers in first-half stoppage time.

Defender Marquel Tankard got in on the scoring with a third goal in the 62nd minute, before Donte Brangman netted twice in the 73rd and 77th minutes before going off with a slight injury.

Captain Ezekiel Stoneham closed out the scoring in the 83rd minute when he converted a cross from the right by Jahkai Hill.

Eagles remain two points behind Rangers after their win over Social Club, where Leo Burgess and Anwar Telford scored in the first half.

St George’s got goals through David Signor and Sage Paynter at Wellington Oval to beat Devonshire Colts 2-0 to move from eighth to fifth.

Wolves, Colts and Social Club, who were fourth, fifth and sixth going into the weekend, lost vital ground on the top three, the gap now six points behind Wolves and third-placed Hamilton Parish who beat bottom team Vasco 3-0 on Saturday at Bernard Park.

After a scoreless first half, Parish got goals from Shayne Hollis, Jeremiah Steede and Chris Caisey in the 58th, 78th and 90th minutes to secure their sixth win in nine matches.

St David’s edged Ireland Rangers at Malabar Field to move ahead of idle Flanagan’s Onions who have slipped to ninth. Jarreau Daniels netted twice for St David’s and Kontai Burton the other, while Henry Santucci scored twice for the home side, including giving them a fifth minute lead before Hayward equalised in the sixth minute.

Burton struck in the 32nd minute to give the visiting side a 2-1 lead at the half.
