Nahki Wells is hoping to continue his impressive scoring form after notching his fourth goal in seven matches for club and country.

Wells struck his third goal for Queens Park Rangers in their 2-2 draw away to Rotherham United in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old had endured a 28-game barren spell before he netted against Sheffield Wednesday last month, his tenth appearance for QPR after joining on a season-long loan from Premier League side Burnley.

He scored against Brentford two games later before heading home a winner on his return to international duty against El Salvador in a Concacaf Nations League qualifier this month.

“I’m back enjoying football again,” Wells told the QPR website. “Scoring goals just puts the icing on the cake.

“I went through a little run of not scoring, but I always felt that my all-round game was there.

“I’m here to do a job and I’m just trying to do what I’ve been brought in to do, which is help the team from the front and score goals.

“Fortunately, I’ve been scoring a few of late and hopefully I can keep that run going.”

Even during his goal drought, Wells said he always felt he was contributing to the team with his workrate and assists.

“It’s all coming together and if I haven’t been scoring, I’ve been putting in decent performances and contributing in other aspects,” he said.

“I was playing better when I wasn’t scoring goals and although I’ve been scoring in the past couple of games, I haven’t been all that great.

“Ultimately, it’s about winning games and if I’m scoring goals it gives us a better chance of doing that. We all know the most important thing is to be scoring goals.”

Wells was at his predatory best against Rotherham, reacting quickly to a defensive error to sweep the ball past Rotherham goalkeeper Marek Rodak in the twelfth minute to cancel out Will Vaulks’s opener.

Clark Robertson guided a free header into the back of the net from a Vaulks free kick to restore Rotherham’s lead before a diving header from Luke Freeman in stoppage time earned QPR a point.

“We all know the importance of today’s point and it just keeps the [three-game unbeaten] run going,” Wells added. “Hopefully the goals can continue and come in more of an abundance than of late.

“It’s disappointing to concede a few goals today [Tuesday], which we haven’t done too many times. We know if we score two goals, more often than not we win the game. [Rotherham] is a tough place to come. They put us under relentless pressure and they know how to use the home crowd and use the dimensions of the pitch.

“To come out with a point, we have to take the positives.”

The Bermuda striker feels it is only a matter of time before QPR, eighth in the table and three points off the play-offs, condemn an opponent to a severe hammering.

“We’re not the most free-scoring team at the moment, but it’s coming,” Wells said.

“I still feel there’s going to be a time when I go out and score two or three, or Tomar [Hemed] scores two or three.”
