Hood benefit from Simmons ‘disrespect’
Dandy Town 0 Robin Hood 3
Robin Hood kept in touch with leaders PHC Zebras after a convincing victory against Dandy Town at St John’s Field where they missed a penalty and had a goal disallowed.
Only able to name three substitutes, including coach John Barry Nusum, Hood’s job was made easier after Town pulled their captain, Angelo Simmons, out of the game in the fourteenth minute for showing disrespect after being given instructions by coach Devarr Boyles.
Simmons was told by Boyles that he was being substituted for being “disrespectful” moments before Hood opened the scoring in the eleventh minute.
Nazigh Spence was warming up when Hood scored after Shakir Smith intercepted a weak pass by Eusebio Blankendal and steered the ball past stranded goalkeeper Treadwell Gibbons.
Boyles followed through with the threat, bringing off his top scorer. They were let off the hook in just the third minute when Tomiko Goater’s goal against his former team was ruled out for offside.
Goater did get another chance in a dominant opening half by the visitors when Kemon Simmons tripped Lejaun Simmons inside the box. Goater’s spotkick was saved by Gibbons to his right.
Hood doubled their lead in the 29th minute when defender Jaylon Bather curled his free kick from the right side of the box into the far bottom corner, leaving Gibbons flat-footed.
Hood had another appeal for a penalty turned down minutes later when Simmons went down on a challenge from K’wonde Lathan but referee Garic Swainson ignored the appeal.
“Whenever you play them out here it’s always a tough game, but for us we felt that we were in control a lot, which is a good thing,” Nusum said. “It was a good thing we got the early goal, which settled us down a bit.
“We were focused on making sure we closed down spaces and didn’t allow them to create because they have nifty players up front.
“I didn’t think it was an offside call but then we get a penalty later. Unluckily for us we missed the penalty, but otherwise we played well.”
Spence had a good chance to pull a goal back for Town three minutes into the second half but he dragged his shot wide after a cross from the right found him at the far post and with just goalkeeper Dale Eve to beat.
Hood made sure of the win midway through the half when Simmons side-footed past Gibbons.
Town’s problems got worse when Jahtino Richardson-Martin was sent off for using foul language towards the referee in the 82nd minute. Late on, Jahnazae Swan struck the upright for Town.
