Thompson back on goal trail for X-Roads
X-Roads 1 BAA 1
X-Roads had to settle for a point against BAA at Garrison Field yesterday.
Fareed El Karfa, the X-Roads coach, was pleased to watch his side fight back but did express some disappointment with the result. One a positive note for X-Roads, Donavan Thompson was back among the goals, as his second-half header drew his team level after conceding early to a London Roberts strike.
“Donavan has struggled with sickness the past few games, but has recovered and we are glad to see him back scoring goals.”
BAA’s Tyrell Burgess had firm effort from close range well saved by X-Road’s goalkeeper Dashun Cooper.
Moments later, Thompson was on the end of a low cross from the overlapping Larry Simmons, but his first-time effort was well saved by the feet of goalkeeper Daniel Johnson.
Bean then watched his header from a Drewonde Bascome free kick graze the crossbar.
The visiting side found a breakthrough in the 27th minute, when Roberts’s shot from the edge of the box, took a deflection on its way through a maze of players and ended up in the bottom left-hand corner.
BAA should have extended their lead when Nathan Rego pulled an angled shot wide.
The miss would prove costly as X-Roads found an equaliser on the hour mark, when Thompson rose to head home a corner. Two minutes later, a knock down from another corner fell in Thompson’s path, but the striker was unable to connect cleanly.
At the other end, Bean latched onto a through ball, but Cooper did well to save his effort. X-Roads had one final chance when Patrick Richardson got on the end of a ball over the top, but could not keep his volley on target.
