Wells features against Nice in friendly

Out in the cold: Burnley forward Nahki Wells

Nahki Wells came on as a late substitute in Burnley’s 6-1 win over French Ligue 1 side Nice in a pre-season friendly yesterday,

It was Wells’s first outing during pre-season for the Premier League side, coming on for forward Chris Wood in the 82nd minute.

Wells only returned to training two weeks ago, having been away on international duty for Bermuda at the Concacaf Gold Cup, and was an unused substitute in Burnley’s win over League Two outfit Port Vale last week. He was omitted completely from the squad for the against Championship side Wigan Athletic last weekend.

Wells, who is facing an uncertain future at Turf Moor, spent last season on loan at Championship team Queens Park Rangers, scoring nine goals in 48 appearances.

He has yet to start a match since joining Burnley for £5 million from Huddersfield Town two years ago and has made just ten substitute appearances for the Lancashire side.

Sean Dyche, the Burnley manager, said: “Nahki came in two weeks late because he played in the summer, so he’s always going to be behind the curve, slightly, so it’s a challenge for him, because we have the lads all chomping at the bit.”
