Local coaches have an opportunity to take part in the Bermuda Football Coaches Association’s Intro to Coaching Course.

The course, which has been sanctioned by the Bermuda Football Association, will be held over two weekends, August 23 to 25 and August 30 to September 1. It is the entry point for the BFCA’s coaching education pathway.

Developed by Jacques Crevoisier, the former Uefa senior director for the technical department, the course will involve classroom and on-field sessions at BFA Field and CedarBridge Academy.

There will be an individual assessement at the end of the course, which will help successful candidates receive the BFA D license, required to coach at under-7, under-9, and under-11 age level teams.

Coaches will also need to complete First Aid certification and Scars training modules independently in order to fulfill the BFA requirements for coach license certification.

The 16-hour course teaches participants how to plan, organise, and deliver enjoyable coaching sessions in a safe environment. They will learn how to organise small-sided games and age-appropriate sessions, and develop in players a variety of technical skills.

The course curriculum also focuses on educating parents about positive support and reinforces responsible conduct of a coach. It is geared toward parents, team managers, PE Teachers, present and former players who are new to coaching.

Those participants achieving a specific score and demonstrating proficiency in their assessment will be considered for recommendation as candidates to progress to the BFCA’s Uefa C equivalent course.

The BFCA underwrites some of the expenses of its courses to help keep access to coaching education affordable for those who have a desire to become certified courses.
