Under-21 call-up a thrill for Trott
Nathan Trott says he is honoured to earn a first call-up to the England Under-21 squad for their Under-21 European Championship qualifiers against Turkey and Kosovo.
The 20-year-old is one of three goalkeepers in Aidy Boothroyd’s 23-man squad.
“It’s always an honour to be called up for any England age group, so it feels good to know that all of the hard work I’ve been putting in is being noticed,” Trott said.
The under-21s face Turkey today at the Izmit Stadium and host Kosovo at Hull City’s KCOM Stadium on Monday.
Albania, Andorra and Austria are the remaining teams in the group.
The Under-21 European Championship finals will be held in Hungary and Slovenia in June 2021.
Trott was a member of the England squad that won the 2017 European Under-19 Championship in Georgia.
He has also been capped six times for the England Under-20s, making his debut at that level against Holland in August 2017.
The West Ham United goalkeeper joined Sky Bet League One side Wimbledon on a season-long loan this summer. He made his debut in a 1-1 draw at home to Accrington Stanley last month.
“I’ve settled in quickly,” Trott said. “Playing first-team football is something I’ve wanted to be doing for a while now, so I’m just taking it in day-by-day and feel myself improving every game I play.”
