Nahki Wells aims to “hit the ground running” on his return to Queens Park Rangers who will host Luton Town at Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium today in the Sky Bet Championship.

The 29-year-old striker has rejoined Mark Warburton’s side from international commitments with Bermuda in the Concacaf Nations League and is returning in good form and high on confidence having netted both goals in the national team’s recent 2-0 win over Panama at the Rommel Fernández Stadium.

“Back to work at QPR, so excited and looking forward to get back to club football,” Wells said. “This is what I have been looking forward to since our last fixture.

“I’m coming in on the back of a really positive result and a few goals that can boost my confidence. I’ll try and hit the ground running.

“I’m excited, we had a good week’s training, I’m healthy and in a great space to go and get three points and a couple more goals hopefully.”

QPR, who are gunning for a third league win on the trot, are eighth in the Championship standings having taken ten points from their opening six fixtures of the season.

Wells’s brace against Panana earned him a place on the Concacaf Nations League League A team of the week. It is an accolade he refuses to take all of the credit for.

“Obviously I reaped the benefits being the one who gets the credit scoring the goals,” added Wells. “But I just did my job equally to everyone else doing theirs; defending well, keeping clean sheets, Reggie [Lambe] getting an assist or playing an influential pass to Zeiko [Lewis], everyone deserves the credit.

“Equally, I think it could’ve been at least another or three players. I felt Donte Brangman, Reggie and Danté Leverock could’ve been in there.

“Roger Lee put in a really good shift, so it was a lot of outstanding performances in that game.”

The Burnley striker, who is on a season loan at QPR, was also joined in the team of the week by Bermuda team-mate Jaylon Bather.

“To have two Bermudians in the team of the week is really good because it puts our name even more on the map than we already are,” the Robin Hood defender said. “It puts our players more out there.

“It’s very big to have been selected and something I would’ve never expected to happen. But I’m glad that I’ve got this honour, to be in team of the week.”
