Wells at the double in narrow QPR victory
Nahki Wells struck two first-half goals to help guide Queens Park Rangers to a 3-2 win over Luton Town in the Sky Bet Championship at home on Saturday.
After Eberechi Eze opened the scoring for QPR in the third minute, Wells netted his third and fourth goals of the campaign in the space of eight minutes midway through the first half.
The 29-year-old, who is on a loan deal from Premier League side Burnley for a second straight season, scored with a left-footed shot in the 20th minute from the left side of the box which found the bottom far corner.
In the 28th minute, Wells added a second, this time a right-footed shot from the centre of the box finding the bottom left corner.
Wells was substituted in the 66th minute as QPR made three substitutions in the space of eight minutes as they held on to their one-goal lead after Luton replied in the 38th and 48th minutes.
Mark Warburton’s side are now one of four teams on 13 points, three behind joint leaders Leeds and Swansea.
Fans took to Twitter to express their delight with Wells’s performance.
David Hadley wrote: “Superb Nahki, great to have you back and among the goals”, while Jay Wyatt urged the Bermudian “You need to move here permanently, you belong at QPR.”
Meanwhile, Reggie Lambe came on as a second-half substitute as his League Two team, Cambridge United, won 3-2 away to Crewe Alexander.
Lambe came on in the 76th minute with the score 3-2 as Cambridge, 12th in the standings, held on for their win at Crewe who dropped from tied second to tied fifth with the loss.
