Semi-final places set to be confirmed
Robin Hood and X-Roads need just a draw from the rescheduled Dudley Eve Trophy matches at Goose Gosling Field, tonight, to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Hood, the defending champions, are favourites to get at least a point against Boulevard in the opening match at 7pm, to advance to the last four.
Hood have scored 18 goals in just three league and cup games and certainly Boulevard, yet to score in three matches, know they face a daunting task of getting a win to edge Devonshire Cougars for the other semi-final spot on goal difference.
A win for Boulevard by any margin would take them through on goal difference, with Hood also joining them on goal difference.
Cougars are handicapped by that 7-0 loss to Robin Hood, though the three points from their win over Boulevard could be enough to take them through.
In tonight’s second match, X-Roads have a one-goal advantage over PHC and would join Dandy Town in the semi-finals if they manage to claim a point against the Zebras.
Both teams were hammered by Town in earlier Group A matches, X-Roads going down 6-0 and PHC 7-0, which gives X-Roads a narrow edge over PHC provided they can avoid defeat.
Form favours PHC, however, after two straight wins in the league, while X-Roads are still searching for their first win of the season under new coach Larry Smith.
n The draw for the preliminary round of the FA Cup was made yesterday with three matches scheduled for October 13 involving two Corona League teams.
Vasco will play Footy Kings at Bernard Park at 2.30pm while St George’s will host Tuff Dogs in the second match at Wellington Oval.
In the opening encounter at Wellington Oval, Hamilton Parish will take on Wolves in an all-First Division clash at 3pm.
Devonshire Colts, Flanagan’s Onions and St David’s all have a bye and will join the three winners and the ten Premier Division teams into the draw for the first round which is scheduled for January 18 to 19.
