Struggling Boulevard stay bottom

Opening goal: Tahj Wade found the net for Eagles

Somerset Eagles 2 Boulevard 0

Somerset Eagles recorded their second home win of the season as they comfortably beat struggling Bouelvard at White Hill Field yesterday.

First-half goals from Tahj Wade and Teniko Eve ensured that the newly promoted outfit would maintain their unbeaten start after four matches.

Jenson Rogers, the Eagles coach, was pleased with his team’s performance and also acknowledges that his troops are off to a good start.

“We are in a positive position right now but we know that we have to keep working because every point counts and if we cant get the win, the goal is not to lose,” Rogers said. “The team executed the game plan well, using the width of the pitch to eventually get in behind and we were able to score a couple of early goals.”

It did not take long for the home team to put their plan into effect, with Wade twice finding space down the right in the early stages and putting in some troubling crosses. He opened the scoring in the 24th minute, tapping in from close range after Marcus Iris-Simmons had beaten his defender down the left and picked him out with a low cross.

Eagles continued to apply pressure and in the 32nd minute and thought they had increased their lead through Nathan Rego, but after consultation between the referee and linesman, the play was ruled offside.

At this point the second goal seemed inevitable and came moments later in clinical fashion.

Eve started the play as he pushed a through ball to Rego down the right and then was in the box to smash the return pass into the bottom corner. Boulevard came out of the break with a little more determination about their play as Ian Coke started to get on the ball.

The home team did well to cope with the early surge, and after bringing on fresh legs midway through the half, they were able to regain control. Joshua DeSilva, who replaced Wade, forced a diving save from Jahhi Shakir, who was up sharply to smother the rebound attempt.

Boulevard continued to push numbers forward but as the game wore on and fatigue became a factor, it was clear that they would not recover the two-goal deficit. The defeat leaves the Pembroke club at the foot of the table without a goal or a point.
