Frazzoni loving new role for college team
Eva Frazzoni is thriving in her new role for the College of Saint Rose women’s football team.
The Bermuda women’s player has been switched from her customary role in central midfield to playing as a wingback instead.
It is a position that Frazzoni really enjoys, although she admits it was not always that way.
“I’m playing a new position as a right-back overlapping midfielder,” Frazzoni explained. “Our formation is unique and allows me pretty much to have the whole wing at my disposal to attack and defend.
“I previously played centre midfield therefore transitioning to the wing was at first not the most exciting. But I’ve grown to really enjoy it mostly because I’m grateful to be on the field to assist my team in the most effective way.
“So far, I’ve been able to be a part of a lot of attack and challenge myself man-marking. I have three assists and just picked up my first goal this season.”
Frazzoni opened her account in a 4-1 home win over Northeast-10 Conference and Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne on Tuesday, sweeping in a rebound inside the six-yard box to earn her team a 2-0 lead at the interval at the Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany, New York.
The result improved the College of Saint Rose season’s record to 11-1-1, with seven of their victories achieved against Northeast-10 Conference rivals.
“Our conference is a very tough conference,” Frazzoni said. “Despite teams being at the top or bottom, they are capable of beating any team.
“My team is very much on track so far this year to have an amazing successful year.
Frazzoni and her team-mates only loss this season was a 2-1 home defeat against Conference rivals Assumption on October 12. “It was a shaking that we needed as personally I felt we had become a tad complacent,” Frazzoni said.
The College of Saint Rose are second in their Conference, two points behind leaders Adelphi with a game in hand, and eleventh nationally. The two teams meet in a top-of-the-table clash at Motamed Field next Wednesday.
“We have our eye on winning our Conference title, taking one game at a time to hopefully win our last four games,” Frazzoni added. “Along with our Conference title, we hope to win our Conference tournament and go into the NCAA tournament on a high.”
Frazzoni has added incentive to put her best forward.
“This year is extra special because I’m a Senior along with my other ten team-mates-sisters,” the former Bermuda Under-20 women’s captain, said. “We are trying our hardest to create an environment for our younger players full of competitiveness, heart and fun.
“I’m very excited about what my team can do this year and I am pushing them as a leader on this team as well, making sure I work my absolute hardest. I have a lot of love for this team, who has over the last four years become my family.”
