Frazzoni relishing conference championship

Final countdown: Eva Frazzoni playing against Pace University at the weekend

Eva Frazzoni says she and her College of Saint Rose team-mates are “prepared and excited” to face Southern Connecticut in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship final, which they will host tomorrow at the Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany, New York.

Top seed Saint Rose are gunning for their eighth NE10 Championship title and first in five years, and will go into the match with a psychological advantage having edged seventh seed Southern Connecticut 2-1 earlier this month.

“We are fully prepared and excited for the championship final,” Frazzoni said. “It is our second goal that we set out to achieve and we are prepared to achieve it.

“We are a bonded force that truthfully is ready to take on anyone.“Southern Connecticut is a tough opponent and we have to continue to play and fight as a team.”

Saint Rose advanced to final after edging Bentley 3-2 in a tight semi -final they hosted on Thursday, with Frazzoni getting in on the scoring act.

The former Bermuda Under-20 women’s captain opened the scoring in the first minute when she drilled in a rebound at the back post.

Bentley eventually hit back through a goal from Marissa Burns that left the teams deadlocked at 1-1 at the half.

However, Saint Rose regained the lead for good when Theresa Durle scored from a corner in the 57th minute before team-mate Nina Predanic pounced to make it 3-1 in the 74th minute.

The visitors pulled another goal back through Dana Goulet four minutes later to make things interesting but were unable to make further inroads as their hosts put up the shutters.

“Our team didn’t play our game but sometimes all you need to do is grind through games,” Frazzoni said.

“We are collectively going back to watch film to see where we need improvement. But a win is a win and it feels great.”
