Missed opportunity for St George’s and Colts
St George’s and Devonshire Colts missed an opportunity to open a gap on Vasco at the top of the First Division after drawing their matches with Flanagan’s Onions and St David’s yesterday.
Leaders St George’s dropped their first points of the season, drawing 2-2 with Onions at Wellington Oval, where Jahron Dickinson’s penalty four minutes into stoppage time protected their unbeaten run.
Dickinson converted the spot kick to deny the visiting side the win.
David Signor, who missed a sixth-minute penalty when he put his effort wide, gave St George’s the lead in the 47th minute, only for mid-table Onions equalise in the 54th minute through Laquan Thomas.
The visiting side took the lead in the 67th minute when Callon Burns netted.
Late pressure by St George’s paid off with Dickinson scoring the equaliser with two minutes of stoppage time remaining.
With second place Vasco da Gama not playing, Colts also dropped two valuable points when they were held to a 1-1 draw by St David’s at Devonshire Recreation Club.
Colts took the lead in the 47th minute when Jahkeylo Burgess scored with a shot inside of the box from a partially cleared corner.
However, Social Club regrouped and were back on level terms eight minutes later when Nasaje Anderson converted from the penalty spot.
On Saturday, Hamilton Parish, second from bottom, beat bottom team Ireland Rangers 2-1 at Malabar Field.
