Vasco look to move level with leaders

Vasco’s Eduardo Vieira keeps the ball away from Chemori Henry, of Devonshire Colts, at Bernard Park in September

Vasco da Gama can move level on points with league leaders St George’s when they play Flanagan’s Onions in a rescheduled match on Saturday night at Goose Gosling Field.

Vasco are level on 16 points with Devonshire Colts, who dropped two points last weekend when they drew 1-1 with St David’s.

They have two games in hand on Colts and have played one game less than St George’s Colts, who dropped their first points of the season when they drew 2-2 with Onions on the weekend.

No other league games are scheduled for the weekend, with three Friendship Trophy and Shield matches scheduled for Sunday.

Colts play Hamilton Parish in a Shield preliminary round match at Wellington Oval at 12pm, while two Friendship Trophy matches will take place at Bernard Park, where North Village play X-Roads, and at Devonshire Recreation Club, where the Cougars host neighbours Boulevard.

Next weekend will involve quarter-final matches at Southampton Oval, White Hill and PHC Field.

Friendship Trophy champions PHC Zebras, who suffered a 5-0 home defeat to Robin Hood in the league last weekend, meet Hood again as they begin the defence of their title.

St George’s will meet the winners of Hamilton Parish and Colts in the opening match at PHC Field, while at Southampton Oval, Wolves take on St David’s and Rangers meet the winners of the Village and X-Roads.

The winners of the match between Devonshire Cougars and Boulevard will be at home to Somerset Trojans, while Somerset Eagles host Dandy Town at White Hill Field, following the opening Shield match between Vasco and Ireland Rangers. The Shield match between Onions and Young Men’s Social Club will be played on Saturday, December 7 at Goose Gosling Field.
