Frazzoni and college claim crown
Eva Frazzoni and her College of Saint Rose team-mates were crowned NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer East Region champions after coming away with a convincing win over Molloy at the Afrim’s Sports Complex in Colonie, New York yesterday.
The top seed once again lived up to their ranking after delivering the third seed a crushing 4-1 defeat to advance to the national championship.
Nina Predanic gave Saint Rose the lead in the tenth minute when she drove in a shot from outside of the box only to see Molloy draw level 22 seconds later after Dana Poetzsch scored from a throw in from the right flank.
However, it did not take the top seed long to regain the lead as Olivia Boucher put them back in front less than two minutes later with a shot that took a deflection.
The match as a contest then all but ended after Caitlyn Dabagian and Kaelyn Britt both scored less than ten minutes apart of each other to give Saint Rose a commanding 4-1 advantage at the half.
Frazzoni, who had a shot saved in the first half, and her team-mates were unable to add to their tally when play resumed. However, by then the damage had already been done.
Saint Rose will now meet Bloomsburg in the national quarter final tomorrow also to be held indoor at the Afrim’s Sports Complex because of heavy snow in the area.
Frazzoni, the former Bermuda Under-20 women’s captain, and her team-mates finished the regular season as the top seeds in the Northeast-10 Conference with an overall 14-2-1 record.
They then clinched a record-tying eighth Northeast-10 Conference Championship title and with it their spot at the NCAA Tournament after recording home victories over Daeman College, Stonehill and Southern Connecticut State at the Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany.
