Smith heads home first league goal
Jonté Smith scored his first league goal as Cheltenham Town eased to a 3-0 victory over Mansfield Town in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday.
The Bermuda striker broke the deadlock after 32 minutes, rising unchallenged to head past goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik from a fine Jake Doyle-Hayes cross.
Cheltenham doubled their advantage seven minutes into the second half as Chris Hussey’s free kick was guided home by Boyle’s diving header, before with four minutes to go Alex Addie sealed the victory.
The result left Cheltenham fourth in the table, a point outside automatic promotion with a game in hand over the top three.
Also in League Two, Reggie Lambe played 79 minutes and set up the only goal of the game in Cambridge United’s 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle, a first victory in seven.
Cambridge took the lead after 18 minutes when Kyle Knoyle collected Lambe’s pass and buried a fine finish into the far corner.
The victory lifted Cambridge two places into eleventh, four points adrift of Northampton Town in seventh and the final play-off place.
Nahki Wells played 68 minutes before being substituted as Queens Park Rangers clinched their first win in eight games with Ebere Eze’s double securing a 2-0 victory over Preston North End in the Championship.
Eze put Rangers ahead in the seventeenth minute, collecting Geoff Cameron’s pass and firing home at the second attempt.
The England Under-21 forward sealed the points midway through the second half, tucking away a penalty after Marc Pugh had been brought down.
Justin Donawa played a starring role, before being replaced in the 93rd minute by compatriot Osagi Bascome, as Darlington got back to winning ways in the Vanarama National League with a 2-0 success over visiting Chester.
Darlington took the lead after 28 minutes when Donawa headed a long pass into the path of Omar Holness who brilliantly lobbed the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.
In first-half added time Donawa doubled the advantage, seizing on a fumble by Chester’s goalkeeper to have the simple task of tapping the ball in to secure a first win in five league games.
Meanwhile, Milan Butterfield played the entire match as Kidderminster Harriers suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Boston United in National League North.
