Frazzoni’s college eliminated

Eva Frazonni

Eva Frazzoni ended her college football career on a losing note after her College of Saint Rose were eliminated from the NCAA Division II Women’s National Championship today.

The eleventh ranked Golden Knights’s title hopes were dashed after losing 3-2 to Grand Valley State in a thrilling semi-final at the Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.

The second ranked Grand Valley led 2-0 at the break through goals from Ava Cook and Chantel Carranza.

It was game on after Kaelyn Britt pulled one back for Saint Rose in the 56th minute.

However, senior player Frazzoni and her team-mates’ rally was stopped in its tracks after Riko Sagara restored Grand Valley’s two-goal advantage with what ultimately proved to be the winner five minutes later.

Morgan Burchhardt reignited Saint Rose’s hopes after she netted in the 76th minute to set up an intriguing finish.

Frazzoni and her team-mates threw everything they had at their opponents but were unable to find a way through.

Saint Rose finished the regular season as the top seeds in the Northeast-10 Conference.

They then clinched a record-tying eighth Northeast-10 Conference Championship title and with it their spot at the NCAA Tournament after recording home wins over Daeman College, Stonehill and Southern Connecticut State.

The Golden Knights defeated Molloy (4-1) in the East Region final to advance to the NCAA Division II Women’s national championship quarter-final where they edged six seed Bloomsburg (2-1) to punch their ticket to the last four for the second time in five years and seventh overall.
