Bermuda pair share the spoils

Reggie Lambe

Reggie Lambe and Jonté Smith settled for a point apiece in the battle of Bermuda team-mates as Cheltenham Town and Cambridge United drew 1-1 in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday.

Paul Lewis put Cambridge in front in the 27th minute, firing past Scott Flinders from seven yards after a cross from Kyle Knoyle on the right.

Cheltenham levelled eight minutes into the second half as Will Boyle headed in a cross from Ben Tozer.

Lambe, who was booked, came agonisingly close to snatching victory for Cambridge in the 71st minute, but his shot flashed narrowly wide of the left upright.

Smith was introduced into the action three minutes later, but neither side could find a winner.

In the Championship, Nahki Wells came on as second-half substitute, but could not prevent Queens Park Rangers slumping to a surprise 5-3 defeat away at basement dwellers Barnsley.

The home side’s Conor Chaplin opened the scoring in the seventh minute, before Luke Amos tapped in a rebound to equalise for QPR.

Chaplin completed his hat-trick with goals either side of half time to give Barnsley a 3-1 lead before Amos grabbed his second to halve the deficit.

Cauley Woodrow’s penalty on the hour made it 4-2, and Bambo Diaby netted a fifth, with Ilias Chair scoring a late consolation goal for Rangers in the 94th minute.

Wells picked up a booking after coming, on as Barnsley picked up only their third victory in the league this season. Their previous two came against Hull in November and Fulham on the opening day of the season.

QPR have dropped to thirteenth in the table with 31 points, four adrift of Fulham in sixth and the final play-off place.

Justin Donawa and Osagi Bascome both featured as Darlington rescued a late 2-2 draw away to Solihull Moors to force a replay in the FA Trophy.

Darlington took the lead in the 22nd minute through Will Hatfield’s spectacular 30-yard effort only for the home side to level before the break courtesy of Sam Jones’s calm finish.

Solihull found themselves ahead just after the hour mark as Jake Beesley forced the ball home at the second attempt.

Bascome came on as one of three substitutes and had a 30-yard effort well saved after 80 minutes. Darlington’s pressure finally told five minutes later as fellow substitute Jack Lambert struck to snatch a draw and force a replay on Wednesday.
