Lewis vows his best is to come at Charleston
Zeiko Lewis has vowed to build upon his promising debut season with the United Soccer League Championship side Charleston Battery.
The Bermuda winger made a significant impact as the club’s leading scorer with eight goals, was tied for the most assist with five and named as Battery’s Offensive Player of the Year.
“2019 was good to me,” Lewis tweeted. “But 2020 will be even better.”
Lewis joined Charleston from Icelandic top-flight side HK Kopavogs last February and made a dream start after scoring his first goal for the club seventeen minutes into his debut against Hartford Athletic.
He also earned Goal of the Week accolades for his curling effort against the Charlotte Independence and capped off an impressive campaign by being named USL Championship Player of the Week in the final week of the regular season.
Charleston finished ninth in the Eastern Conference of the Championship last season to advance to the play-offs for the twelfth straight year.
Mike Anhaeuser’s side reached the Eastern Conference quarter-finals, where they lost 3-1 against Nashville SC with Lewis converting Charleston’s consolation from the spot.
Charleston are at home to Philadelphia Union II in their season opener at their new ground at Patriots Point on March 28.
Lewis is in his second stint playing in the USL Championship, having previously played for the New York Red Bulls II on loan from parent club New York Red Bulls.
He helped Red Bulls II reach the USL Championship Eastern Conference final before being released in 2017.
