City edging closer to signing Wells
Bristol City are believed to be on the verge of signing Burnley forward Nahki Wells.
Reports in the English media suggest that the Sky Bet Championship side are close to agreeing a fee for the Bermudian.
Wells has been recalled by Burnley from his loan spell at Championship side Queens Park Rangers as they look to sell the 29-year-old’s before the January transfer window closes on Friday. The Premier League side do have an option to extend Wells’s contract for another year after it runs out this summer.
Wells, who was signed by Burnley for £5 million in 2017, made nine substitute appearances for them during the 2017-18 season.
The former Dandy Town player has thrived this season, scoring 15 goals for QPR in all competitions. He also has the highest shots on target percentage in the second tier.
There has been plenty of interest in Wells, with Bristol City facing competition from second-tier rivals Nottingham Forest and Wigan Athletic.
QPR were also keen to sign Wells on a permanent basis but were ruled out after manager Mark Warburton admitted they could not afford him.
Wells joined the West London outfit in August on a season-long loan after a successful 2018-19 campaign in which he scored nine goals in 48 appearances.
Should City complete a deal for Wells prior to the registration deadline, his first game for the club could be a trip to QPR on Saturday.
