Lewis named among region’s top talent in USL
Zeiko Lewis says he is “humbled” to have been named among the top ten players in the USL Championship from the Concacaf region this season.
The Charleston Battery forward was a strong candidate for the accolade as his four goals and two assists this season have helped keep his team’s hopes of reaching the play-offs firmly on track.
“To be named one of the top USL players from the region is a big accomplishment,” Lewis told The Royal Gazette. “I am humbled and honoured to receive such recognition.
“However, just making the list isn’t enough for me. I want to keep improving and pushing my team and myself to the top.”
Lewis and his team-mates stretched their unbeaten streak to five games with a 3-1 home win over Miami FC at Patriots Point Soccer Complex on Wednesday.
Logan Gdula, Romario Piggott and substitute Dante Marini were all on target for the hosts while Miami replied through Miguel González’s early second half strike.
“Three points is three points no matter the opposition you are playing against,” Lewis added. “But three points in our conference games, in particular, give us some breathing room and gets us closer to the top.”
The win was a third in straigh succession for Charleston and also the first time they have managed to score nine goals in three games in the USL Championship era.
Lewis and team-mates are back in action today in a vital top of the table clash at home against Group H leaders Tampa Bay Rowdies at Patriots Point Soccer Complex. A victory for Charleston will see then pull within a point of the visitors.
Bermuda international Lewis says he and his team-mates are up for the crucial clash.
“We want to win our group and move through the playoffs,” he added. “So every win and point is important.”
