D’Andre Wainwright made a huge impression on his debut for Billingham Synthonia in their emphatic home win over former team Durham City in the Northern League Division Two on Saturday.

The Bermuda striker continued his prolific start to the season as he fired a hat-trick and had an assist in Billingham’s 7-1 thrashing of Durham to hit the ground running at his new club.

Wainwright opened his account in the 34th minute when he fired past Durham goalkeeper and compatriot Quinaceo Hunt from close range to put the home team ahead for good at the Norton Sports Complex.

He then went from scorer to provider two minutes later when he won the ball off of a defender and played in Ben Bielby, who lashed in a shot from outside of the box.

Wainwright grabbed a second in the 52nd minute when he slotted in Gary Redman’s pass across the goalmouth before heading in from Joe Scaife-Wheatley’s corner in the 85th minute to complete his treble and claim the match ball.

“Playing against my former team was good because I knew how most of them play, and after my first goal I was really relaxed,” Wainwright told The Royal Gazette. “I just took it just like any other match.”

Stephen Morrison, Ben Jackson and Bielby (two) accounted for Billingham’s remaining tallies. Calvin Payne replied for Durham.

Wainwright made his debut for Billingham nine days after joining them from struggling bottom side Durham.

His hat-trick was his second of the season, having achieved the feat on debut for Durham in a 4-3 defeat at home to Willington last month.

“Scoring my second hat-trick is satisfying because this means I’m settled quickly,” Wainwright said.

The former Bermuda Under-20 striker has now scored 11 goals in ten appearances, including a goal in his final appearance for Durham in a 3-2 defeat away to West Allotment Celtic the day before joining Billingham.

Meanwhile, Dalkurd midfielder Willie Clemons came on as a 79th-minute substitute in his team’s 2-1 win away to Örgryte in the Swedish second division.

Filip Sjöberg has been credited with the 85th-minute winner; however, Clemons begs to differ, with video footage suggesting he might have got the final touch.

He added: “I’m happy to help contribute to an important three points for the team.”

Örgryte led 1-0 on Marokhy Ndione’s 20th-minute strike before Samuel Leach Holm equalised for Dalkurd on the stroke of half-time.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Zeiko Lewis’s Charleston Battery were eliminated from the USL Championship play-offs after losing 1-0 away to Tampa Bay Rowdies in the Eastern Conference semi-final at Al Lang Stadium.

Lucky Mkosana scored the game winner from a header in the 79th minute to put an end to the visiting side’s attempt for a fifth USL Championship title and first in eight years.
