Bristol City climb back into play-off places
Nahki Wells helped his Bristol City team climb two places back into the play-off spots as substitute Famara Diedhiou netted in the 82nd minute to secure a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ashton Gate last night.
Wells, who played the whole match, went close with shots in the 76th and 78th minutes as he had a busy night, picking up a yellow card in the 38th minute for a foul on Ryan Nyambe.
City, eighth coming into the match, tried desperately to break the deadlock, finally doing so when Diedhiou, a 75th minute replacement for Antoine Semenyo, netted the game’s only goal seven minutes later when he scored from inside the box.
The three points take City into sixth place, one of four teams on 30 points. They are a point behind second placed Bournemouth and four behind leaders Norwich who beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 yesterday. Reading lost 2-1 at home to Birmingham, who beat Bristol City 1-0 on Saturday.
Watford, Swansea and Reading all have 30 points while Brentford and Stoke City are on 28 points. All the teams have played 17 games, with Bournemouth and Swansea drawing 0-0 on Tuesday, while Watford beat Rotherham 2-0.
