The Pembroke Hamilton Club Foundation continues to meet the objectives that it set out to achieve nearly two decades ago.

To date, nearly 100 recipients have been benefited from the registered charity, whose aim is to provide support to PHC’s youth athletic, education and scholarship programmes.

“The foundation was established in 2007 with the goal of creating educational opportunities for PHC’s players, regardless of sport,” Mark Simons, the PHC Foundation president, explained.

“Assisting worthy and qualified applicants with their educational financial needs was seen as a means of creating well-rounded servants to the community in the long run.”

Simons added: “Since 2007, the foundation has given scholarships to 94 recipients for a total of nearly $500,000. Up to 12 recipients each year have been awarded financial assistance.

“The foundation is a registered charity. Funding for the scholarship programme is secured from corporate and personal donations. Several donors have been supporting the foundation since inception.”

The PHC Foundation is now accepting applications for 2021 scholarship programme until the April 30 deadline.

To be eligible, applicants must be an active member of PHC’s various programmes for at least four consecutive years.

Applicants must also:

• Hold Bermudian status and be a permanent resident of Bermuda

• Be pursuing a programme of higher learning at an approved institution of higher education, including the Bermuda College

• Be able to present clearly identified goals and career path

• Possess a minimum grade point average of 2.5

At the discretion of the committee, scholarships will be granted each year up to a maximum of $10,000 to the recipients to be used towards covering the cost of tuition, living expenses and literature.

“Pembroke Hamilton Club is synonymous with success in Bermuda sports, but this community club is so much more than just sports,” read a statement posted on the PHC Foundation’s Facebook page.

“Yes, PHC does realise the important role that sports plays in developing our young people into positive role models. In addition to this, PHC is committed to developing the complete athlete!

“The complete athlete is driven to succeed in both the sporting world and in the classroom. The PHC Foundation looks to assist young members at the club in achieving their academic potential both overseas and on island.”
