Nahki Wells's late heroics against former loan club Queens Park Rangers has been named the MansionBet Moment of the Month of September by Bristol City supporters.

The striker came off the bench to grab the winner three minutes into stoppage time to complete the visitors hard-fought 2-1 win in the Sky Bet Championship contest at Loftus Road on September 18. You can see the goal at 5.50 on the video.

Wells’s first goal of the season arrived after team-mate Chris Martin and QPR’s Sam McCallum traded goals either side of the interval at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

“I think the gaffer said something that was important to me, to be positive and stay up, and that was the encouragement to try to get a winner,” Wells commented immediately after the match.

“Because he said that, I held myself up the pitch a bit more and was able to get on the end of a great ball from Andy. I’m delighted, what a great time to score a goal.”

Wells was City’s top scorer with 11 goals last season.

The Bermuda captain has been out of Nigel Pearson’s squad since pulling his groin during the warm-up ahead of City’s 1-0 loss away to Millwall in the Championship on September 29.

Wells made his first start of the season in his previous appearance in City’s 1-1 draw at home to Fulham also in the Championship four days earlier.

The 31-year-old joined City the day before the transfer deadline in late January 2020 for a £4 million fee from Burnley.

He bagged 15 goals that season on loan at QPR, who ultimately decided against putting in an offer to sign him on a permanent deal.

City went into the international break ninth in the Championship, two points adrift of the play-off positions.

Pearson’s team will host leaders Bournemouth at Ashton Gate in their next league outing on October 16.
