Reggie Lambe on target as Stowmarket step up title hunt
Reggie Lambe, the Stowmarket Town forward, scored in his team’s convincing 2-0 win away to Great Wakering Rovers in the Isthmian League North on Saturday.
The Bermudian made the early breakthrough at Burroughs Park after putting the visitors ahead in the third minute.
Defender Joe Jefford then pounced in the 42nd minute to double Stowmarket’s advantage and send them into the break with a 2-0 cushion, which they maintained the rest of the way, to extend their unbeaten streak in the league to seven games.
The win also sent the visitors to the top of the table, where they hold a one-point advantage over second placed Canvey Island, with Aveley a further two points adrift in third.
The eventual champions in the Isthmian League North, the seventh tier in the English football pyramid, will clinch automatic promotion. The next four teams will compete in a play-off for the sole remaining promotion spot up for grabs, while the bottom four will be relegated.
Returning to the Stowmarket line-up in the win over Great Wakering Rovers was Lambe’s compatriot and Bermuda team-mate, Willie Clemons.
The winger had not featured in Paul Musgrove’s squad since being shown a straight red card in stoppage time for dissent in a 3-1 win in a heated Suffolk Derby away to AFC Sudbury at MEL Stadium on January 29.
Clemons picked up a yellow card in the 47th minute and was replaced by defender Jack Ainsley eleven minutes later.
The 27-year-old had been in sparkling form going in the match, having scored in each of his team’s previous three outings in league and cup action.
Lambe was influential in Clemons joining the non-league club last October having had his contract at former Swedish club Dalkurd terminated in December of 2020.
Lambe signed for Stowmarket Town in 2020 and scored on his debut in a 5-0 win against Eynesbury Rovers in the Buildbase Football Association Challenge Vase competition.
