Bermuda failed to advance to the knockout stage of the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championships in the Dominican Republic last night when they were beaten 5-0 by the hosts in their final group F match.

Julia Jimenez and Renata Mercedes scored two goals apiece, while Ariana Día was also on target as the home team dominated throughout.

The two teams went into the match with an identical minus-12 goal difference with Dominican Republic only needing a draw to advance because of the goal they scored in their 3-1 loss to Jamaica.

Dominican Republic broke the deadlock in the third minute when Jimenez’s chip from outside the box eluded goalkeeper Dominique Brown who was off her line.

A free header from another corner made it 2-0 in the ninth minute when Mercedes scored from inside the six-yard box.

Brown made a near post save to deny the home team midway through the half before a shot from the edge of the box smashed against the crossbar in the 30th minute.

Bermuda forced their first corner of the match in the 43rd minute but never seriously tested the Dominican Republic goalkeeper, captain Paloma Pena.

Dominican Republic extended their lead in the 52nd minute when Jimenez side-footed into an open goal from a cross by Ariana Diaz with Brown was caught out of position.

Diaz made it 4-0 in the 61st minute when a shot on the turn from 16 yards went in off the underside of the crossbar. Mercedes closed out the scoring, getting on the end of a free kick to score her second goal of the game.

Canada and Jamaica drew 1-1 in the other match with the former winning group F on goal difference ahead of the latter and Dominican Republic, as all progressed.
