Kenni Thompson released by London City Lionesses

Free agent: Kenni Thompson is on the lookout for a new club after departing London City Lionesses

Kenni Thompson is one of nine players who have been released by FA Women’s Championship side London City Lionesses.

Despite helping the club to achieve a second-place finish in the league, the Bermudian, who signed in August of last year, is now looking for a new club along with Hannah Short, Lily Pursey, Annie Rossiter, Alli Murphy, Mollie Rouse, Brooke Nunn, Melis Mehmet and Wiktoria Fronc after their departures were confirmed this week.

“We’ve come so far in such a short amount of time as a club and to achieve our highest-ever league finish along with first victories over WSL opposition is true testament to the impact of every member of the team,” said head coach Melissa Phillips.

“With the close of each season, changes are always presented within the squad and we are grateful for the commitment and contribution which these players made along the journey.

“A few who have been a part of the club since the start, will always be a part of the foundations set for future successes. We wish each player departing the best in their next chapter and will always closely follow their journey.”

The move to the Lionesses marked a return to England for Thompson, who was part of the Chelsea Under-15 set-up before spending the majority of her professional career in Spain, having also previously played for Deportivo La Coruña and Espanyol.
